Create a self-booking link
As part of Hero’s scheduling infrastructure, through the application interface, you can generate a ‘self-booking’ link.
What is a self-booking link?
A self-booking link is a URL that enables a patient to book an appointment.
How does a self-booking link work?
Once generated, a self-booking link allows a patient to select a:
- Location
- Appointment
- Practitioner
- Appointment time
There are two types of self-booking link:
- Patient-specific: This type of self-booking link is unique to a specific patient. The patient confirms their identify by entering their date of birth when they first open the link, before selecting the appointment and time, and completing the booking.
- Generic: This type of link will require a patient to authenticate to book an appointment. In an NHS context, authentication will be via NHS Login. This happens once the patient has selected an appointment and time, and before they’ve completed the booking.
When creating a link you can also specify how many times the link can be utilised to book an appointment.
How can I utilise self-booking links within my product?
Example uses cases of self-booking links include:
- Triage providers adding self-booking links to their triage responses, sent to patients. This enables providers to send patients links to book appointments in response to a triage submission.
- Document management providers adding self-booking links to their existing messaging. This enables a provider to review a document, assess that a patient needs a review, before inviting them to book in for the review.
